COURSE LENGTH

4.5 hour live online session on 28 April 2022 from 14.00-18.30 CEST + 1 hour for final assessment.

DESCRIPTION

A live online workshop for paediatric intensivists on pharmacology applied to PICU. The basic course presents concepts of pharmacology useful in PICU and focuses on analgesia and sedation. The live session will feature 2 series of 5 lectures (15-20 minutes each) followed by a Q&A with the faculty. There will be a short break between the 2 parts of the session (Part 1: Pharmacology in PICU and Part 2: Analgesia and Sedation). The course concludes with a final assessment. A link to the final assessment will be shared after the live session.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Understand pharmacology applied to PICU
  2. Distinguish PK and PD of drugs in PICU patients
  3. To report the best evidence on analgesia and sedation and its complications

COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS

To successfully complete the course and receive a certificate of completion, participants must attend the entire live online session on 28 April 2022 from 14.00-18.30 CEST, receive a minimum score of 80% on the final assessment within 1 month of the live session, and complete the course evaluation survey. Participants who attempt the final assessment but do not pass will be eligible for a certificate of participation.

A self-paced online course highly relevant to all PICU and NICU healthcare professionals.  This is a basic overview of Evidence-Based Practice and how to read and interpret different paper types. Please note that this course does not cover understanding statistical tests and data analysis.

DESCRIPTION

The Mechanical Ventilation Course has been developed by the members of the ESPNIC Respiratory Failure Section. In over 40 sessions, the basics of paediatric mechanical ventilation will be discussed. Because mechanical ventilation is one of the most common interventions in the paediatric intensive care unit, this course is very relevant for all staff involved in the care of the critically ill child.

DESCRIPTION

The Nutrition in Critical Care course includes 10 sessions delivered by experienced ESPNIC Nutrition Section members. The course is aimed at all members of the PICU multi-disciplinary team and based around the ESPNIC consensus nutrition guidelines.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Assess the nutritional status of the critically ill child
  2. Assess the energy requirements of the critically ill child
  3. Assess the protein requirements of the critically ill child
  4. Successfully plan and guide enteral feeding in the critically ill child
  5. Choose the most appropriate feed for the critically ill child
  6. Appropriately assess the tolerance of enteral nutrition
  7. Assess the role and timing of parental nutrition in the critically ill child

The ESPNIC BASIC (Basic Assessment & Support in Intensive Care) course is an internationally recognized course of lectures, tutorials and skill stations focused on the management of the first 24h of critical illness in childhood.

The Course is organised by different institutions around the world but follows the same format, including; course textbook, mailed to participants prior to the course; online tutorial/lectures for pre-course preparation; pre-course MCQ-based formative assessment; followed by 2-3 day course consisting of lectures, skill stations and tutorials taught by Intensive Care specialists, with an emphasis on a practical approach to the management of critically ill patients. At the end of the course, a Post-course MCQ test is performed.

The course targets junior ICU doctors with little ICU experience, senior trainees in medicine, surgery or emergency medicine and senior ICU nurses.

The course covers the following topics:

The ESPNIC Summer/Winter Schools are a 3-4 day refresher course targeted at candidates preparing for the European Paediatric / Neonatal Intensive Care DiplomaTM (EPIC DiplomaTM), or any individuals wanting to refresh their core knowledge in the specialty.

Each edition focuses on different topics from neurocritical care through ethics, non-invasive mechanical ventilation in the PICU/NICU to critical care nephrology.

The small scale event (up to 30 participants) allows practical hands-on training by key speakers and experts from ESPNIC. The course provides an insight into current topics and controversies in the newest topics in the Intensive Care world, covering both dedicated theory and practical components.

The ESPNIC International Multidisciplinary Paediatric and Neonatal Acute and Critical Care Research Summer School is an event, endorsed by ESPNIC and organized by different local societies in different countries. The programme provides a 2-day personalised learning experience for a small group of participants delivered by a large group of experienced faculty and research staff. This event aims to deepen participants’ understanding of methodological approaches to key issues. This is enabled by keynote plenary lectures on key issues, followed by optional elective workshops on methodological approaches or research issues. These sessions are suggested by research level starting from master’s level, through to early post-doctoral level.
