A Legacy of Care, Science and Collaboration

ESPNIC was founded in 1980 in Barcelona, with the aim of creating a dedicated European community for paediatric and neonatal intensive care professionals.

ESPNIC was founded in 1980, during the XVI International Congress of Paediatrics in Barcelona, when a group of European intensivists recognised the need for a dedicated scientific community focused on critically ill infants and children.

What began as a small network of clinicians and researchers has grown into an international multidisciplinary society bringing together physicians, nurses, allied health professionals and researchers working across paediatric and neonatal intensive care.

Over the years, ESPNIC has contributed to the development of education, research, clinical collaboration and professional standards in intensive care medicine, supporting the exchange of expertise across Europe and beyond

Today, ESPNIC continues to evolve as a collaborative scientific community committed to advancing knowledge, improving patient care and supporting the next generation of intensive care professionals.
